Playing a Bigger Game: Coaching at a Higher Level with Townsend Wardlaw

“I’m here to help you. For the rest of your life.” - Interview with Townsend

There’s a moment from my conversation with Townsend Wardlaw that’s been sitting with me all day.

He was talking about a client he’s served for years. A founder who was growing his company, preparing to scale again and sell. He was also bringing his family into the vision and wanting to build something that lasts.

Townsend said that when he’s coaching them, he’s not focused on their day to day problems, he’s focused on literally planning the next evolution of their company and their idea of legacy with the companies they want to create with their family members.

I felt that.

Not just the words. Something deeper behind them.

The kind of relationship where you’re not just solving problems. You’re shaping a future. Not as the expert. As a partner in someone’s corner who is fully committed to their success.

There’s a level of service where we stop thinking about what we can get. Or even what we can fix. And we start seeing how fully we can give ourselves to someone’s dream.

Not to impress.

Not to convert.

Just to serve the soul of what they’re creating.

It reminded me how easy it is to stay in safe conversations. To deliver value to our clients that looks good. That even gets results. But misses the potential miracle.

The miracle of someone creating what they want, beyond their wildest dreams and seeing you as part of that. Not because you marketed well. But because you loved well. You served well. You stayed in the conversation.

Townsend is honest about money. He talks openly about million-dollar clients. But that’s not the game he’s playing. The game is devotion. The game is, “I’m here to really help you. For the rest of your life.” And meaning it.

That’s the real shift.

Not “How do I charge more?”

But “Where am I most called to serve with everything I’ve got?”

And then playing the game of: Am I willing to stay there, long enough, humbly enough, for that service to be seen as invaluable?

This conversation reminded me why I coach.

Thank you, Townsend, for modelling what’s possible and living it.

In this interview, Townsend shared something powerful about what it takes to serve at the highest level. It’s one of the most impactful things you will likely hear as a coach. I request that you watch it — ideally twice. Look for the gold and implement it. I promise you it will help you in your coaching business.
