I learned a great distinction from Steve Chandler regarding nouns vs. verbs. You are not fixed in who you are; you are constantly creating, and you can take action in the direction you want to go.
Many times in my life, I made a definitive statement of who I was and didn’t realise how much this limited my growth. For example, I would say for years that I had poor fitness. I repeated this to myself and others over and over.
What I didn’t realise was that this was a “get out of jail card”, which meant I didn’t need to take any action to improve my fitness levels.
There is a really strong man in the gym where I train who trains regular and has a really focused mindset. However, he also says “I have no self-control around food. It’s too hard”. When he uses this language he is severely limiting his ability to change his eating habits.
Watch the 13-minute video below. I also discuss the distinction between expectations and agreements, which I learned from Steve Chandler. If you live in a world of expectations, you will eventually lead to disappointments.
