“People don’t pay for coaching over here…” Really?

In our very first webinar at the new AJC Open Community last week, one of the most important moments came from a live coaching I had with someone in the call.

He told me that in his country, “people don’t pay for coaching like they do in the UK or the States.”

I hear that kind of thing all the time — “Oh, people over here don’t pay,” “It’s different in my town,” or “Coaching is too expensive for my market.”

And I just have to call it for what it is…

A generalisation. A limiting belief.

I remember a conversation I had with a client a while ago, another coach who worked with business owners.

At the time, I asked him about his best client. He’d been working with this business owner for about five years. I asked what had happened in that client’s business over that time.

“He’s gone from five million to thirty million in revenue.”

That’s a $25 million growth.

And when I asked how much of that he thought came from the coaching work they’d done together, he said:

“Easily half.”

That’s $12.5 million in value that came through their coaching relationship.

It was really important that he got the value his coaching creates.

The truth is:

It’s not about your fees.

It’s about the value.

And it’s about where you’re coming from when you speak about your work.

If you’re operating from a place of, “People won’t pay,”

Then guess what? They won’t.

But if you really start to see and own the impact you’re creating — and speak from that place — everything changes.
