I remember a few years ago, having a coaching session with Steve Chandler, where I was telling him that I didn’t know what to do next.
I had a bunch of ideas, and I shared all of them with him. “I could do this program, I could run this thing, I could do another version of my Men’s Immersion”… but I didn’t know what to do.
Steve, with his trademark humour, suggested I put the different options on a dartboard and throw darts at it, and whatever the dart landed on or was closest to, do that next. I looked at him quizzically. But as always in Steve’s humour, there was truth to it. He pointed out that it didn’t matter what I did next so much as that I did something.
That has stuck with me ever since. It’s so easy for me to get caught up in the excitement of something new. Starting things and not finishing them, or just getting in my head about doing the right thing and doing it in the correct order.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t ever consider what to do next or what might be the best thing for our business. It’s less critical than we might think. When I work with coaches, I always point them to just doing something and getting it to completion. I’d say one of the legacies of my work with Steve Chandler was learning to complete projects that I had started because this is something that I used to struggle with before I became a coach.
Not only is prioritising certain tasks inevitable for a successful business, but the understanding of the human mind can increase your performance, resourcefulness and well-being in any area. I recommend you listen to a great podcast episode with Piers Thurston. We discuss the invisible part of the success formula for business and much more. Check it out down below.
P.S. I am glad to see how my online course with Dr. Mark Howard continues to help coaches grow their businesses. This is a course we created to bridge the gap for coaches who got impacted by The 3 Principles but still struggle to create clients in an ethical and sustainable way. The next couple of days I’ve got a special Black Friday offer of 20% off this course. Click here to get your discount.
