I Couldn't Be Doing This Work Without My Family

It’s been a crazy few weeks in my life. Just over four weeks ago, my grandmother passed away. She had been in hospital for a few days. But I certainly hadn’t expected her not to come home. This happened whilst I was in Phoenix having some sessions with my coach Steve Hardison, and it was a very strange experience being away from family during this time.

However, when I came back whilst it was a sad time, the funeral was an opportunity to see so many of my family and hear stories about my grandmother and appreciate her in a way that I hadn’t ever done while she was still alive.

I’ve just returned from a week-long holiday to Egypt with my wife and son. We had better weather than we had a year ago when we visited Turkey and experienced almost a week of rain whilst it was very sunny in the UK. This year was a little different as we enjoyed sunshine every day in temperatures in the mid-30s. My wife is a really great advocate of us taking time away and I’m so grateful for her because it gives me an opportunity to really slow down and switch off.

It was great to reflect just how much has changed in the last year for all of us, and consider where we’re heading as a family and individually, going forward. This weekend, I’m speaking at The Ultimate Experience Birmingham edition and whilst I am speaking at more and more of these kinds of events, it will be the first time that my wife will be in the audience, which means a huge amount to me because I know it’s not really her first choice on how she spends a bank holiday weekend and yet she’s such an integral part of my journey and who I am in the world. It means a lot to have her in the audience.

I’ve been told I’m not allowed to embarrass her and acknowledge her too much from the stage but I want to say to you that my investment in my growth is as much her investment as it is mine. Every time I’m away for work, whether it’s at a Powerful Men’s Immersion, delivering my coaching school or flying to Phoenix, my wife has to handle so many things back home.

For those of you who don’t know, my wife also works and she has a job with high responsibility in London with a team of people working for her and she recently got promoted. So it’s not easy when I’m away for days at a time, so I want to just take this opportunity to really acknowledge her, and please know that if I’m having any kind of positive impact on you, that it wouldn’t be possible without my wife’s support.

I hope that I will see many of you this weekend in Birmingham. If you haven’t bought a ticket and you’d like to attend, click here.
