Don’t try to get clients, give instead.

Don’t try to get clients, give instead. - Ankush Jain

Giving wholeheartedly has profoundly impacted my coaching practice. Not just tangible offerings, but the immeasurable value in giving of myself. It’s something I have experienced from both Steve Chandler and Steve Hardison. I cannot put a value on what these men have given me, through our deep, honest and vulnerable conversations.

Reflecting on my journey, I remember one piece of wisdom by Sydney Banks that has continually guided me: “You cannot give away what you don’t have.” To me, this means sharing from a place of abundance and love for myself. The deeper I see what it is like to unconditionally love myself — love that is not conditional on my past or behaviour—the more I can love others. And this is where true service lies.

This has been a long journey and one that has accelerated over the past 2 or 3 years. However, I have always had a core value of deep service towards anyone I coach. One example that stands out for me was when a client hired me not because I continued to serve him even after he initially said no to working together.

Another example is in selling out coaching programmes. It’s not about spamming social media with sales posts (which I did back in 2014 when I was trying to fill my first men’s program), it’s about creating and sharing what already exists within the program. For example, I’ve invested time and money in creating faculty interviews and insightful content for my coaching school, making them freely available. This isn’t just marketing; it’s providing value upfront and giving potential clients an experience of the school before they sign up. I find that the more value I give away, the more inclined people are to join.

So, I ask you to consider how you can give more. How can you package the experience of being with you into small, digestible pieces for your audience?

It’s the countless small acts of giving that build a thriving practice and lasting impact. The more value you create, the more it reflects back, impacting your life and the lives of those you touch.
