Can You Be More Productive and Happy at the Same Time? | Ankush Jain

One of the topics that people frequently ask me about is how to be more productive. It’s perhaps one of the most common questions I get and it’s something that I have struggled with myself.

In fact, a recent survey with more than 1 million users by Headway, a self-growth app, showed that people from the U.S., the UK, and Australia rank “Be more productive” at the top of their self-development goals and over 60% of people prioritise productivity over happiness.

We live in a world where we are surrounded by technology that is supposed to make our lives easier. We now even have robots that will vacuum the floors and cut our grass and we’re very close to having cars that will drive themselves. Yet, despite all these technologies, people seem to still struggle with productivity and getting things done.

I believe a big part of that is because what’s missing is not more technology. I believe we don’t actually need more hours in the day, even though we can often feel like that.

What has helped me with my own productivity has been slowing down.

When my mind is sped up and there’s so much to do, I get less done. But when I remind myself that the way to productivity requires me to slow down first it enables me to get my bearings to work out what I need to really get done. Then I’m able to take action without stress or anxiety. This has been a formula for me that has worked for over a decade now.
